Rose Haynes Touhy

Rose Haynes Touhy is deeply committed to learner-centered education, both through her professional work and as the parent of a 14-year-old unschooler. She has co-founded and consulted with self-directed learning programs throughout California and served on the board of Alder Commons, an innovative community center in Portland, Oregon. She currently works with The Writing Salon, an adult creative writing school, and chairs the board of a Northern California center for letterpress arts and education. Rose brings more than twenty years of experience in nonprofit leadership and education to her work as a teacher, poet, and storyteller.

 She holds an MFA in Poetry from San Francisco State University, where she served as a graduate teaching fellow and organized a monthly student reading series at The Poetry Center. She lives with her family in Northern California.
