This adventure is designed for young conservationists, ecologists and environmentalists, excited to explore food webs, track endemic species, explore marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and investigate how cultural heritage intersects with environmental stewardship.


  • From waddling penguins to stealthy predators, rugged coastlines to golden savannas, and ancient traditions to cutting-edge conservation, this roaming journey invites children to experience South Africa’s rich ecological and cultural diversity firsthand.

  • Over four transformative weeks, we’ll travel through distinct landscapes and communities—from the misty forests of the Garden Route to the rocky shores of the Cape Peninsula and the vibrant city of Cape Town. Along the way, students will study food webs, track endemic species, explore marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and investigate how cultural heritage intersects with environmental stewardship.

  • Each student will become a “Conservation Curator,” crafting their own natural history museum exhibit blending field sketches, scientific investigations, storytelling, maps, and live presentations. On our final day, families will be invited to experience this powerful showcase.

 
    • 4-week immersive learning program integrating science, geography, literacy, math, and art

    • Daily sessions from 10 AM–3 PM, Monday–Thursday + one Saturday field day

FAQs ABOUT CONSERVATION CURATORS LEARNING ADVENTURE

  • Conservation Curators is designed for curious, nature-loving learners ages 8–12. Please note that siblings outside this age range cannot be accommodated within the student group.

    • Week 1: Wilderness (Garden Route)

    • Week 2: Scarborough (Cape Peninsula)

    • Week 3: Cape Town area (Constantia / Newlands / Atlantic Seaboard)

    Each week’s learning location will be centrally located and shared via WhatsApp prior to arrival.

  • We will be exploring different areas in the beautiful country of South Africa. Families will need to book accommodation in the following locations (dates provided):

    Families book their own accommodations near each weekly base:

    • Wilderness: Jan 5–9

    • Scarborough: Jan 11–15

    • Cape Town area: Jan 18–23

    We recommend booking early. Many families use Airbnb, LekkeSlaap, or local guesthouses.

  • We don’t offer booking services, but families are welcome to share suggestions and coordinate lodging through the WhatsApp group.

  • A rental car is required for all families, as the program shifts locations weekly and many field sites are not accessible via public transport.

  • The program runs Monday to Thursday, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM, with optional small-group math tutorials from 9:00 – 10:00 AM, two days per week. Each child will be assigned to a Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs tutorial group.

  • No. Families are responsible for daily drop-off and pick-up, as well as all transportation to field sites. We’ll help facilitate carpool coordination through the WhatsApp group.

  • We start our adventure in Wilderness on the 5th of January 2026.

    You could fly in/out of Cape Town and then drive 5 hours to Wilderness or fly into George (15 minutes from Wilderness).

  • Your child will participate in outdoor science, art, storytelling, and nature-based projects. Please pack the following:

    Basic Supplies:

    • Pencils, sharpener, and eraser

    • Black or blue pen

    • Glue stick

    • Scissors

    • Small ruler (in centimeters)

    • Colored pencils or fine-tip markers

    • Watercolor paints + a few brushes (varied sizes)

    • Small roll of Scotch tape

    Math Tools:

    • Small scientific calculator (for ages 11+; a calculator app is fine if permitted)

    Daily Essentials:

    • Refillable water bottle

    • Containers for snack and lunch

    • A comfortable backpack

    • Sturdy walking shoes

    • Weather-appropriate layers, sunhat, sunscreen, and insect repellent

    Each student will receive a field journal—no need to bring one.

  • English is widely spoken in all areas we’ll visit. No additional languages are needed for participation.

  • Each location has access to local medical services:

    • Wilderness/George: George Mediclinic or local doctors

    • Scarborough area: Clinics in Fish Hoek or Simon’s Town

    • Cape Town: Major hospitals and urgent care nearby

  •  Yes! Parents are welcome to join field excursions, hikes, and museum visits, and are responsible for their own entry fees and transport. Participation is optional, but always encouraged.
