FAQs ABOUT THE GALACTIC GAZERS LEARNING ADVENTURE

  • Galactic Gazers is designed for young explorers ages 8–15, divided into two small cohorts of 8 students each: one group for ages 8–11, and another for ages 12–15. No prior astronomy experience is needed—just a love of learning and curiosity about the cosmos.

  • The classroom will be located in Centre-Ville (downtown Aix-en-Provence). The exact location will be confirmed and shared with families via the WhatsApp group closer to the start of the program.

  • Families arrange their own accommodations. We recommend staying in or near central Aix-en-Provence for walkability and easy access to class and field meet-up points.

  • We don’t assist with bookings, but families commonly use Airbnb, GĂ®tes de France, or local rental agencies. Messaging hosts directly often results in long-stay discounts, so it’s worth asking before booking.

  • No. Families are responsible for daily drop-off and pick-up, as well as transport on field trip days. We will support carpool coordination through our private WhatsApp group.

  • We highly recommend renting a car for the duration of your stay to access our field trip destinations (e.g., observatories and dark-sky reserves). Some classroom days may be walkable or accessible by public transport, but most excursions require private vehicles.

  • Oui! Aix-en-Provence offers many grocery stores, farmers’ markets, bakeries, and pharmacies, especially in the city center, making it easy to shop for daily essentials.

  • The program runs Monday to Thursday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Each day begins with math or French tutorials from 9:00 – 10:30 AM, followed by engaging, interdisciplinary lessons in astronomy, planetary science, physics, and more. We will have two classroom days and two field excursion days per week. We will also have one observing night each week which will entail an additional, but optional late evening outing.

  • French is the primary language, and basic English is spoken in most service and tourist areas. Students will participate in conversational French classes twice per week, led by a local, native-speaking teacher.

  • The closest major hospital is Centre Hospitalier du Pays d’Aix, about 10–15 minutes from downtown. There are also several clinics, urgent care centers, and pharmacies nearby. Emergency details will be shared with families before the trip begins.

  • Yes! Parents are welcome to join field excursions and adult French classes, space permitting. Participation is optional and paid directly to the provider. It’s a great way to connect with your child’s learning journey.
