• 7 – 12 years old
PERFECT FOR:
This adventure is designed for budding ecological engineers ready to explore the world of biomimicry engineering.
-
Playfully adventuring through the tropical forests, beaches, mangroves and ocean ecosystems of Costa Rica will help us gather the knowledge, skills, and inspiration for diving into the world of biomimicry engineering.
As we build our understanding of tropical ecology and all the parts and processes that vibrantly sustain this special ecosystem, we will also consider how this knowledge can support us to create sustainable solutions for modern problems.
-
As a team we will develop a solid understanding of the importance of intact tropical ecosystems from the perspective of human society as well as the larger Earth system and simultaneously get creative through learning about and using the engineering design process to develop biomimetic designs for reducing resource use, increasing energy production, building sustainably, and reducing our impact through cleaner and less wasteful living.
-
This design challenge will require us to combine our skills and talents in science, engineering, art, and literacy. Our adventures will culminate in an engineering design showcase for the parents and siblings highlighting each engineer’s creative and sustainable designs!
-
A month of classes, 4 days a week.
